Women and Children
Women and children are the most vulnerable segment of the world's population. The program areas of Global Ministries work to focus attention-through education, networking, advocacy, and resources-on helping congregations and communities respond to the needs and concerns of women and children, particularly the oppressed and dispossessed; those struggling with poverty, violence, abuse, exploitation, and other challenges.
The combined barriers of racism, sexism, and class divisions become inseparable in the lives of an individual woman suffering oppression, a youth seeing no future, or a child struggling to survive. These same barriers work within our United Methodist churches and agencies. They limit each of us from fully carrying out God's mission in the world. Confronting these barriers in ourselves, our institutions, and our world underlies the mission of Global Ministries.
The program offices of Global Ministries also act as catalysts and energizers, sensitizing members of The United Methodist Church to the continuing situations of women, children, and youth, and providing arenas for networking.

The Women’s Division offers grants of up to $8,000 for projects and programs that address the needs of children and youth, ages of 5-18, in the areas of peacemaking, anti-abuse and non-violence.
